It has been an intense time for the UJ Solar team. We have made a number of decisions which we hope will benefit us for the 2012 race. A number of redesigns are on the cards so as to make a Ilanga I a slightly more competitive vehicle, and not only the promotional vehicle it was built to be. So the senior team has become more involved in the existing vehicle, with plans slowing down slightly for Ilanga II (for now). We are all looking forward to the race which is just around the corner, but until then there is a serious amount of work to do…Wish us luck!
About Warren Hurter
I am a Qualified Mechanical Engineer continuing my studies to a masters level. I have been appointed Project Manager for the UJ Solar team, and will also be designing a survival cell (FIA specs) as well as the suspension steering and braking system for Ilanga II. On Ilanga I my role in 2011 was project manager, chassis designer, power train designer and solar cell encapsulation. My goal for 2012 is to put the University of Johannesburg on the map by producing a second competitive solar vehicle to represent the university at the South African Solar Challenge.
